Creating maps for blast mode

Hi, I’m Matthais, an Intern at Infernum Productions, and over the next few weeks I’m going to give you all some information on the different shooter modes and how they may shape your map-building experiences in the sandbox editor.

Today I’ll tell you a bit about the Blast game mode.

Blast Mode is a mode designed for two teams. Similar to Counter-Strike, teams will play an offensive role (terrorists) or a defensive role (counter-terrorists). In sandbox mode, a Blast map requires a minimum of two bomb spots on your map.

When you’re playing Blast mode battles there’s no respawning if you get killed, so every round really matters. What’s pretty cool is the map builders will have the opportunity to decide where they want to put their bomb sites. You can place them almost anywhere, underground, high up on a tower, in a wide open space… the possibilities are endless.

If you wish to build a balanced map you need to think carefully about where to place your bomb sites. In the map building mode you also get to choose where each of the two teams should spawn when they start the round.

During play testing we found that it’s usually important to place the spawning points of the defending team closer to the blast spots. If the starting point of attacking team is too close to a bombsite, it can become too easy for them to plant the bomb.

Bombsites can be placed almost anywhere. There’s a minimum of two per Blast map.

Finally, when building a map, each team should have enough distance between their spawning points too. If they encounter each other early on due to close placement of spawning points, the round will be over too soon without enough tactics or strategy.
